If you're ready, an uncomplicated extraction is often done the same visit. The area is numbed fully first. A tooth that's partly or fully under the gum needs a surgical extraction, which our dentists also perform in-office; some of those are scheduled for a dedicated visit depending on the tooth. Sedation options are available, and this is the procedure where people most often want them, so bring it up when you call.

How bad is the recovery, honestly?
Plan on two or three days of swelling and soreness managed with cold packs and over-the-counter pain relievers, then steady improvement. Most people are back to work or class quickly, chewing carefully on the other side. The aftercare sheet's rules exist to prevent dry socket, which is the one complication worth respecting.
Do all four wisdom teeth have to come out at once?
No. An emergency visit deals with the tooth causing trouble. If the X-rays show the others are headed the same direction, the dentist will tell you and you can plan on your own schedule. If they're positioned fine, they stay, and nobody here will sell you four extractions when one is the problem.
What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?
Dry socket is what happens when the healing clot dislodges from the socket, exposing bone; it hurts and it slows healing. Prevention is mostly about suction and disturbance: no straws, no smoking, no vigorous rinsing for the first days. Follow the sheet we send home and your odds are good.
